He is in regular demand as a tenor soloist and has sung Handel’s Messiah on a number of occasions, Bach B minor Mass at St John’s, Smith Square with The Joyful Company of Singers, Haydn Nelson Mass with Dame Felicity Lott and the St Albans Bach Choir, and Rachmaninov Vespers also with the Bach Choir. His repertoire also includes Britten St Nicolas, Haydn Creation and The Seasons, and Elgar The Kingdom. In addition to the tenor arias in Bach’s Passions he was delighted to sing the Bach St John Passion as evangelist with Charivari Agréable Sinfonie and the Romsey Singers and Choral Society. Ian has sung the Britten Serenade for tenor, horn and strings with Fiona Brockhurst (horn) and the Salisbury Sinfonia. He has taken part in productions of the three Benjamin Britten Church Parables in Salisbury. Ian sings with Sarum Voices and enjoys deputising for the Cathedral Choirs of Salisbury, Winchester and Chichester. He is the founder and conductor of the Salisbury Cathedral Junior Choir and is the animateur for the Singing Together outreach project for Wiltshire Primary schools which has been running for seven years; this has now reached in excess of 3000 children. He has conducted the Salisbury première of Stainer’s Crucifixion in the orchestration by Barry Rose. As an organist he has given recitals in Westminster Abbey, Salisbury Cathedral, St Albans Abbey, Christchurch Priory and churches across the country. Ian has accompanied the Salisbury Cathedral Choir on a number of occasions and has co-produced recordings for both the Salisbury Cathedral Girl Choristers and Sarum Voices in Salisbury. As a pianist he accompanied Colin Howard (tenor) in a recital of Schubert and Tippett, the St John Singers in the Rossini Petite Messe Solonelle and Stanford Songs of the Fleet, and Daphne Moody (violin) in a programme of Elgar, Mozart and Brahms. He has taken part in complete performance cycles of the Bach 48 Preludes and Fugues and the Shostakovich 24 Preludes and Fugues in Salisbury Cathedral. Ian has conducted the Romsey Singers since 2002. |
