Ian Wicks has been our musical director since
September 2002.
He read Chemical Engineering at Exeter University, while combining the posts of Choral Scholar in Exeter Cathedral Choir with that of
Organ Scholar in the University Chapel. After university he started teaching music, while singing in St Albans Cathedral Choir under Barry
Rose. He moved to Salisbury in 2001 to take up his present post as Director of
Music at Salisbury Cathedral School.
His previous conducting experience ranges from his own
chamber choir, broadcast on Radio 3 while he was still at University, to
the Children in Need song on Wogan.
Ian is in regular demand as a tenor soloist. He has sung Handel's Messiah on a
number of occasions, Bach's B minor Mass at St John's Smith Square, Haydn's
Nelson Mass and Rachmaninov's Vespers with the St Albans Bach Choir and Stainer's Crucifixion with the St John's Singers.
He has given a number of
organ recitals at St Albans Abbey (including a programme of duets with Barry
Rose), Salisbury Cathedral and Christchurch Priory and has also accompanied the
Salisbury Cathedral Choir on a number of occasions.
Ian has composed a number of school musicals, incidental music for many
other productions and co-produced
the Salisbury
Cathedral Girl Choristers' CD Angel Song.
